 | 30-Jul-2004 3:57:59 pm (MN) | - | Okay, forget fixing stuff I quit at this whole "I'm gonna code my own blog" junk. As soon as I can I'm going to stick moveable type or some other pre-packaged blogging thingy on this site. My stuff looks bad and I'm not finding the time to fix it or make it look better.
If anyone has a preferred blogging package let me know. Significant weight will be placed on how well it scores on my "is it free" scale.
Well, I feel like I've left a few of you out of the loop on something pretty big. A while back I received a job offer from Veritas. I'm working at West right now and I wanted to give them a chance to see if they were interested in my or not. Well, it turns out they are interested but they don't have openings in locations I'd want to be. Also, Veritas is paying me more than West could. I kind of feel like a capitalist pig but I have some considerable debt and the $$$ will help.
Also I'm developing a thing for nice shoes. I just picked up a pair of Steve Madden's and man do I dig them. That's a whole other discussion though.
Paul will be joining us at the Ponderosa for a few days while Bethel cleans up all thier dorms. I think he's going to stay in my room, which will be sweet.
This week has been pretty good. I've gotten a ton of work done at West and I was able to see a few people I don't see that often, Laura on Monday and Dave on Tuesday. Yeah for friends.
My family and I are going Salmon fishing I guess. That should be a ton of fun. My mom tends to get semi-random ideas and then take the fam along but this one is looking pretty solid. Better than the "let's go sailing one" in my opinion, but that's just my $0.02.
Well, I hope you're rocking out wherever you maybe,

 | 21-Jul-2004 11:16:12 pm (MN) | - | Updating part 2 Okay, dinner was good. Wahoo for Wendy's $0.99 menu. Brooke and I are flying to Denver for the weekend. There's a family reunion for both sides of her family and we're getting in on it. I'm hoping to bond with Brooke's brother Brad....I hope he likes to hug, because man, am I a hugger ;)
Works going really well. I'm a little less intimated by GUI stuff now in Java. Java is really easy. I'm still willing to get into a debate on Java vs. C/C++ but they each have their place.
Not too much else. I'm really digging the summer. Fun times, don't get much done but that's okay.
Okay, for the second time today, I'm out. Have a good one.

 | 21-Jul-2004 7:03:13 pm (MN) | - | This has been a week of solutions Versus the usual weeks of randomness. It looks like a gentleman has decided he wants my car. I'm not getting quite what I asked for it but he's nice and he needs it. Also there's some movement on the "Joe finding a real job" front. Nothings certain yet but things are definately pointing in one direction. Oh, and it turns out that my antanne hasn't been broken for the last month and a half, it just needs to be manually extended.
This is short because I'm hungry and, more importantly, so are brooke and Paul. Have a good one,

 | 16-Jul-2004 11:38:19 pm (MN) | - | The weekend is great, I recommend everyone does it Well...this weeks over. I'm getting some visible progress done on the project at work and that's sweet. I drove the Saturn to work today but the guy that wanted to look at it never called. Then I got stuck in traffic with no AC and one working window...yeahh.....:(
Tomorrow brooke and I are heading up the Mille Lacs with Izzy, Amanda and Disco for "Munson family water fun day". That's just a working title I came up with but I think it's catchy. Or we could go with "Boat and BBQ"....decissions, decission. We'll be eating and layout about at Father Hennepin State Park in lovely Isle, MN.
Sunday is, barring another freak cold like I had last week, church at open door and then a nice, lazy afternoon. I'm thinking of getting the car cleaning supplies I bought last week and out making the civic shine like the sun.
Well, I hope the Kruck's are having a great time in Eau Claire and everyone else is digging into the weekend, where ever you may be.

 | 14-Jul-2004 11:01:07 pm (MN) | - | I fixed stuff and I'm selling my car I fixed the busted stuff...I think...let me know if anything doesn't work. You should be able to add and view old and new comments.
Work is going well...so that's sweet. Java keeps surprising me. XML is pretty sweet too.
I'm selling my car on carsoup. I think it's going to take a while for the picture to show up though. If you know anyone that's interested let me know.
Also, if you, or anyone you know, is looking for a programming gig and live in the twin cities drop me a line. The big V is hiring and I think they need some more cool people.
That's it...it's late....keep on a rockin' for the kids.

Thank you Mooney:)
The link for it is here.
The last two days have been sweet. Sunday was the 4th at the farm. Brooke and I went up to the podunk town of McGrath, MN for the parade. Then it was a cookout at my grandparents. Solid food. Somehow we got suckered into doing the dishes but it was kinda fun. I received an electric razor for my birthday from my parents and a sweet card from my sister. Thanks a lot team.
Today was super low key and it rules. Brooke and I played some video games and worked on cleaning out my car. It's a hole but we made some progress. We actually had to jump it because it was sitting for too long. It must have been barely dead because the seatbelts still moved automatically and the clock on the cd player never reset.
Brooke made dinner, chicken tortilla soup, for Paul and I. Good times. I'm going to see my friend Jenny Bahe tomorrow. She's going to a twinkies game with some people for her birthday but I can't go so I'm meeting them afterwards. Should be fun. I've know Bahe for like 10 years or so and our birthdays are less than a week apart so we've always had that bond going for us, which is sweet.
Well, I'm gonna go do laundry for tomorrow. Have a good one and remember, 23 is a great age to be.

 | 30-Jun-2004 5:12:06 pm (MN) | - | Hey....everybody....it's.....me
Okay, I completely forgot about this whole "internet" thing for a while. I'm gonna use bold and everything so hold on.
Ryan's Wedding
This was last weekend in the western suburbs of Chicago. Brooke and I left the cities at 11:30 and got there right on time at 5:30...and then sat around until the practice started at 6:15. The one time I'm on time ;) That night we had the groom's dinner and I received a football as a "thank you" gift from Ryan and Melissa. I think Ryan's trying to toughen me up. He signed mine "Hey nancy pants, take off the skirt someday". Well, I made that last part up but I still say he's trying to toughen me up.
Travis and I booked the rooms at the TravelLodge. Yeah, that place is definately a motel, as opposed to a hotel. And it was bordering the train tracks which is always a nice plus. The bathroom was clean and so were the sheets and we were all tired enought that we made due.
The actual day of the wedding started out hectic. The tux shop messed up a solid majority of the tuxes. Ryans dad didn't even have one until a half hour after pictures were supposed to start. Good thing that guy was late. The wedding itself went off really well. The wedding party rode to the banquet hall in two limo's, a jag and a lexus, so that was sweet. The party was the most fun I've had in a long time. I danced with brooke, haleigh and lisa lanz, who are three of the more charming ladies I know.
The drive back was okay, it rained a bit and MN drivers don't know what the left lane is for. Silly people, if you're slow, drive in the left.
This week
So far this week has been good. Brooke found out her ibook is now covered under apple's expanded ibook logic board replacement thingy-majobber(sweet word huh?). Went to a movie night a Mr. Mooney's were I was able to see a bunch of people, including Mike Vedders. If you don't know him, he's one of the more amazing people out there. If you do, you know what I mean. Tonight is a Pedro the Lion concert. Actually...I've gotta run to meet brooke for that. More later.

 | 23-Jun-2004 10:11:11 am (MN) | - | Oh look....a butterfly
Yeah...I get distracted easily. Like this last week. I was all into work and sleeping and what not I forgot about the internet. Being that I am a graduate, that's so cool, with a Computer Science degree that could be seen as blasphemy but...eh.
So, is would appear that Daredevil is a better poker player than spiderman. Intereseting....
Last weekend was father's day. I was lucky enough to get to go home for the weekend and hang out with my family. On Saturday my sister and I went to St. Cloud and saw Shrek 2 which was decent. We also did some shopping before hand and I bought a few shirts. Polo's are so the way to go when doing business casual.
Sunday we headed up to my grandfather's farm for some good ol' KFC. Spent some time with a cousin and his family whom I rarely see, so that was neat. Then it was back down to the cities.
This week is going to be kinda busy because I'm working ten hour days, or at least trying to, in preparaion for leaving town on Friday. Brooke and I are going to IL for my friend, and former roommate, Ryan's wedding. He's been engaged since August of 2002...that's a long time to be engaged. I'm really looking forward to this because Ryan and Melissa are really cool people and a lot of our friends from school will be there.
That's about all I'm really up to. I received some fun emails this week from Jess and Laura. They both sound like they're doing well on their respective sides of the world. I also think I'm finally cleaned up the dvd that was made in Australia. Jess did all the work really so I'm not going to say the dvd that I made but I was one of the credited actors so I do get some credit :)
Alright, I'm gonna get back to work,

 | 15-Jun-2004 4:53:20 pm (MN) | - | Don't let the terrorists sue us
I'm learning how to use the JDBC API. I downloaded a zip files with some code examples pulled from a book. In that zip file was a README that contained this warning:
You acknowledge that this software is not designed, licensed or intended for
use in the design, construction, operation or maintenance of any nuclear
facility.
How funny is that? "Well you honor, I had a MySQL database with a list of times that I didn't want the reactor to melt-down at but the code example I used was faulty".
That's all I really have for you...hope it made you laugh.

ps. I like the new Counting Crows video(It's WinMediaPlayer but it's the only link of the real version, not shrek 2, that I could find). That rabbit is funny. I kinda find the implications of the girl running away with him disturbing, but I'll let it slide this time. View 1 comments - Add Comment |

And it was good...
I reallly liked this movie. I feel like it's a solid criticism of christianity and the teen christian scene. I'm a firm believer that if you can't laugh at yourself, then you have no business laughing at anyone else. That's all I really have to say about the movie. Go see it for yourself.

 | 11-Jun-2004 4:08:09 pm (MN) | - | A rough day
Well, the title refers to yesterday. I went to work, made my little presentation and all was well. Then it was dinner at Eddington's with brooke, Paul and Nelson. That was all fine and dandy. But on the way home my car started making noises.
This noise making progressed louder and louder until I was really scared. brooke and I pulled into the parking lot of the scientology church on 694 & Long Lake to check it out. We couldn't really figure anything out so we went a little further and then stopped again. We had ascertained that the noise only happened when I was traveling at a constant speed. To get around this I drove home by accelerating to 40 or so, on a 30 mph road ;) , and then braking. I would wait until there was a stop in traffic to go again and I'd repeat. It worked, to an extent, and I was able to get home.
So that's a little less than sweet. Then I get home and I'm playing my sweet xbox and, for some reason, the car in the game decides it's going to put the breaks on no matter what I think it should do. The xbox has done this once or twice with the joystick. It'll get "stuck" but not in the mechanics of the controller, it happens in the xbox. You can more the stick freely, but the xbox doesn't read it correctly. This is solved by wiggling it a bit and the xbox gets the idea. Well, that's a long explanation that leads to me sitting there, feeling a little frustrated and saying, "My real car doesn't work and not the video game car won't work. Today sucks".
Brought the car in today, turns out one of the wheels was working it's way off of the car. If I hadn't caught it when I did it could have come off in traffic. Wow would that have been less than sweet. So I'm $20 lighter but my car drives again, and that is sweet.
My dad ripped up his hand trying to fix the dryer on Wends. night. He had some tendon damage but didn't cut all the way through them. He spent the better part of yesterday in the waiting room in Brainerd waiting to get all stitched up. He's now home and feeling pretty good.
Tomorrow is Travis's sister's, Haleigh, graduation party so brooke and I are going up to milaca for that. I'm hoping to get a haircut before that and see saved afterwards. There is a lot of good movies coming out this summer. I need to get back on the "going to see movies" train.
Have a good weekend and don't let the weather get you down,

 | 07-Jun-2004 1:50:12 pm (MN) | - | If you were going to buy Joe a birthday present...
It'd be this. For real though, this is a sweet, sweet peice of tech. Hope it doesn't hit any hiccups along the way.
Well, this weekend was fun. Saturday was driving to Mankato to buy that car and then back to the house for a movie.
Sunday was church with Grandma, it's her 70th today, and lunch with my mom's side of the fam. Then it was a nap followed by cooking dinner. Paul, Mandy and Travis came to Nicks where brooke and I had made dinner. I burnt the chicken in Round 1, followed by really dry chicken in Round 2. I think the flame was just too high.
Today is creating a comparison of applications we have that do things like the database viewer I'll be building so the powers that be can decide which features they like and which they don't. I also completed my loan today so I have the money for the car. I'm working on getting insurance. I didn't realize going to a 2-door would jack the prices like they did...whoops.
Well, that's all I've got for now. Have a good one,

 | 05-Jun-2004 7:13:03 pm (MN) | - | I bought a car
yeah for me
I bought this car today. Well, more aptly brooke and I drove to Mankato, test drove it and gave them a $500 check to hold it. It drove really nice and was clean. The only thing is that the windows are all tinted really dark and I"m not sure how legal that is in MN ( it came from AZ). I'm planning on putting a call into the highway patrol on monday to ask. The guy said they'd take it off if I wanted so I just need to let him know what's up. The car also has shiny rims that I'm not sure about. They're bright and I think I'm going to keep them because they up the resale if nothing else.
All in all I'm pretty excited about this. It was nice having brooke there to back me up. When we first got there another guy was test driving it but he still had to go line up a loan and all that so, after a test drive, I swooped in on the deal. Now I just need to get insurance on Monday and get the loan paper work completed.
I have some more photos I'll try and post soon. Thanks for all your opinions, they helped me out a lot. Oh, and a big thanks to wiljefv and nate gossett for their help Friday night. You guys are awesome.

 | 02-Jun-2004 8:58:30 am (MN) | - | Real Quick Like
Okay, so I'm going a little batty not having the internet at my house. I'm gonna chalk the lack of updates to that. Here's two real quick points:
1) I'm going to be getting a different car soon and I'd like some input. I had been thinking VW Golf but then I kept hearing that VW doesn't produce the quality of car you'd expect for the money you spend. Now it's between a
Saturn Ion quad coup or a Honda Civic. If I bought a Saturn I could get a brand new one for a little over 15k with tax, title, blah, blah, blah or I could get a civic that was really similair to brooke's for 12k or so out the door. What do you all think? Leave a comment and let me know.
2) I had some time, while brooke was playing True Crime: Steets of LA on my Xbox, to look at my Australia DVD. It had a spot where the video would glitch and throw off the audio for the rest of the dvd. I think that my laptop just can't handle playing the video clip at that point in fast-forward and playing another song over the top. I just don't have the power captain.
I'm gonna edit that to remove a little video and slow the rest down. Sorry Jess but at least this way it'll get done :)
Oh, and Josh got to Seattle okay, so that's neat.
I'm out....have a good one,
