Yet another reason why scientists rule
Scientists grew a replacement jaw bone on the man's own back. Read the BBC article.

I'm going back to school...
For some form of bio-science. I need to discover a way for me to carry Zach Braff's child. I mean just read the man's blog and you'll be in line right behind me to carry the next generation of Braff's into existance. I know I'd always planned on dedicating my services in the this field to Jack Black but, well, he's kind of letting me down as of late. Hopefully the King Kong remake restores my faith in a brother.
Oh, brooke got a sweet new haircut so look forward to seeing pictures of that some time soon.
I think I've managed to get rid of all of the gmail accounts. Nelson, I have yours but I'm not sure where to send it. Let me know.

I'm almost a real programmer
So I've getting towards the end of my second full week of work and I'm really getting my hands into the mess. I can't exactly get into it because of NDA's and stuff. Man that's sweet that something I'm doing is on the DL. I'm doing a lot of porting. This week was windows to unix. The next two weeks is porting from Unix to windows...that's gonna hurt.
Brooke is home for the rest of the week, so that's cool for her. People are starting to move back into Bethel so I'm seeing people I've missed all summer, which is sweet.
On a sadder note, my mom alerted me to this. These people were from my home town area. The girl was actually the little sister of my of my better friends growing up. I don't know all that much about what the current situation is but the other two that survived were in very bad situation last I heard. The son of the couple that crashed is a freshman at Luther college. He's a great guy and I can't imagine what he's going through.
Okay, that's sad so, on a lighter, very irreverant note, I present this Just so you know, it has the f-bomb and Jesus only a frame apart and it's from the crew at Penny Arcade

Trout domination and other news from the northland
Well, my family and I went fishing on Lake Superior today and it was a lot of fun. We were slotted to fish from 6 am to noon but that was cut short a little before 9am due to wind and the ensuing rise in wave size. During the 2 hours or so we fished my family caught 8 fish with yours truely accounting for 4 of those. One was cheap, we were realling the lines up to go home and he was on it. But I did catch one of the 2 big fish we had. My dad landed a Chinook Salmon that was around 6 pounds and fought like none other. My big fish was a Lake Trout that was a little longer but a little more svelt. We called it a tie. The boat's skipper had to club my fish over the head when we got back to shore because it was getting out of hand. That was sweet.
Work is going well. I'm picking things up pretty fast I think. It helps a lot that I've been at Veritas before so I know roughly what to expect.
That's about it. I don't have anything interesting. Go read josh's site. He's more interesting and on top of things than I am.

My new office
Well, I started my new job today at the big V. My office is awesome. I have a desk that raises and lower's itself with a keyboard level that does the same but seperately from the may desk. I also have two computers. A Sun box and a fierce Dell workstation. The Dell is a dual 3.2Ghz Xeon with a gig of RAM and a 15k scsi hard drive, I think. Needless to say, wicked fast.
Today has been reading a white paper on what my team is doing. It looks like it's going to be a really good project.
I'm looking forward to Monday. Not so much for the three hour benefits presentation but Kristie will be here then and that's always fun.
This weekend should be interesting. Lot's of fun needs to be squeezed in because school/winter is on the approach. Look out kids, run and hid.
Oh, boyum moved out. About time....slacker ;)
That's all I've got. Keep on rockin' for the gene-enhanced worker monkies,
JoeBuck

New Rims for the Civic
So brooke and I travelled to Mankato last night to the dealership I bought my civic from to talk about getting new rims. The one's I currently have are 17" and have a brutual ride to them. There's so much rim that the little tire that is there can take next to no abuse before the occupants of the car start to feel it.
The rims I think I'm going to get can be seen here. I wanted something with sizeable spokes and I like how there's a small gap in the middle of the spokes. I also like that they're painted and not chrome. I'll be able to run a 205 sized tire....whatever that means. I know it's bigger than the saturn's tires so it'll be more reasonable. What do you all think?

This one's for Mooney, Dave, Kruck and any other *nix to OS X converts
I found this link which shows a command line statement to enable the "focus follows mouse" feature in Mac OS X. I know that at least one person, Dave I think, lamented it's abscence. Turns out that as of 10.3 it's there but covert. Let me know if this works or if it hoses your system. I'd try it but I don't like this feature. To each their own.

Why Veritas stock became cheap
I was unsure of why stock for the big V took a dive in July but here it is.
First off, I have a slight interest in the stock doing poorly right now in that it means I get a lower price in 6 months, and hopefully turn a modest profit.
Secondly, I know nothing about the stock market and the laws governing it.
That being said it seems to me like some people lost some money and now are calling shennanigans. Well....tough. Seems to me that's kind of how the stock market rolls. The differnces they're complaining about seem minor enough not to warrent a big fuss.
Investors in Adelphia and SCO have grounds to piss and moan, granted, but this seems to be a normal part of the ebb and flow of the market.
That's just my $0.02....which will hopefully marture into $0.04 or $0.05 given current market trends ;)

When "Back to School" time isn't
I've begun seeing "back to school" ads on TV and what not and I keep thinking..."no it's not". I knew that this would be the point at which it would start to sink in that I've graduated, and it's starting to. I'm also guessing that when I start at Veritas things will be different to.
On Friday West took all of us interns out for a boat ride on Lake Minnetonka. Some of the houses on that lake are unreal. I'm guessing that those people don't even know how much money they have, they just point at stuff and say, "I'll take that". Not a bad way to roll if you have that option.
Not too much else going down. It was a slow weekend, which is perfect every once in a while. It seems like summer is always so full of wedding's, graduation parties, bbq's, trips to the lake, etc. Always fun but it doesn't leave a lot of time for just taking it easy and enjoying the wonderful MN weather.
Anywho, I'm gonna get back to slacking off. Have a good one.

When a Baldwin Believes
On the way into work this morning I heard about this dvd. Apparently Stephen Baldwin, of Biodome and Flintstones 2: Viva Rock Vegas, has produced and directed a christian extreme sports video. He was on KDWB this morning pushing it and the Lois Palau festivial that's going down in the cities. I think the idea is good, reaching teens in a medium they connect with but the message he put forth on the radio was a little dishearteneing. He said that salvation is a side-product, the real deal was the experience that you get from christianity. He also used the words "gnarly", "radical" and "awesome" repeatedly. Oh to be famous and have my every whim be deemed worthy of air time.

New Commenting System
One more thing. Commenting on my new site works a little differently. You must put a name and an email address to post a comment. The first time you post a comment I need to approve it. After that you should be able to post freely. I've chosen to do this because several of my friends who use this software for their blogs get a large amount of spam and I'm hoping to avoid that. If this really bothers anyone they can contact me. I'm open to discussion on this topic.

The old stuff
My old website is taking a nap. It'll be back soon, in an archive-like format. I'm kicking around properly importing the old stuff into the new structure but that requires work and what not. The reason I moved to this was to lessen the work I had to do. Anywho, keep on a rockin'

Australia DVD is done
So anybody that wants a copy needs to email me with your address. I've burned 5 copies and am planning on sending a few to Bond, one to Iowa and one to wherever Rachel is, Japan I think.
Sorry it took so long team.

It's so new and sparkly
Okay, so I finally became sick of dealing with all the different ways in which I'd broken my website so I've migrated to MoveableType 3.0. It's pretty easy to get working, even when you're kind of out of it on a Sunday afternoon.
My sister came down this weekend to hang out and that was a ton of fun. Her and I did some shopping and then joined Paul and brooke for dinner. We ate at Big Bowl in Rosedale, which was good, and then headed down to the new Ikea store. So many cool things there. I need to get some of my own furniture instead of mooching off of dave. I appreaciate it a lot brother, don't get me wrong, but I need to find my own style....whatever that may be.
Today was church at the open door. Sherry Mortenson spoke. She's an associate campus pastor at Bethel so it kind of felt like a prolonged chapel. We'd heard a few of her stories but it was a good message. After church it was my sister's first experience at Qdoba. I think she enjoyed it.
I'm at a loss for interesting things to say so I'll say look at this. The new Batman is going to rock. The director from Memento is doing it along with Chrisitan Bale as our favorite caped crusader and Katie Holmes holding down the "love interest" role. Just awesome is what that is. Check out the trailer and then hit the photos link to see the car. This isn't George Clooney's batmobile.
Well, have a good one and enjoy the weather
