Joe Buck.....reposter of news....

I realized recently that I rarely post anything schemed within my own, over-sized head. I seem to be posting links to information from other places more and more. Could it be that my tenure in corporate america has already begun to leach the uniqueness out of me. Could it be that the brain morphing caused by over exposure to stock plans, exit strategies and "taking things off-line" has brought me to the ends of my quirkyness and self-amusing hillarity? Maybe.....meh.
I've got two things. One, I just got back from seeing Little Black Book. The ending helped a little but it only boosted it to mediocre. It needed more Ron Livingston and less Britney Murphy. The sweet mastiff helped a lot though and so did the cameo by Gavin Rossdale. He even had lines. I wonder if he had to join the actors union or whatever it is that you steal money from when you watch a movie you got off the internet.
Secondly, here's another article. I really liked it. It talks about the growing mass of people in japan that can't find work and some small sects in their society. They talk about a sect that is under 25 and is not in school nor pursuing a career. They live at home and are anti-social. I've got a solution, throw them into a com. sci. program in the states. No will think anything of it and then they can have a degree and be mopey yet trained. It beats knitting doilies with your crazy aunt Gertrude.

Mexican churches are ahead of the US

At least in regards to taking back the service. Read this article and then maybe bounce the idea off some people at your respective place of worship.

A fun little article

It's says something about the character of a people group when the don't consider moving their town to be something worth getting worked up over. I also like how they get defense when it's mentioned that they once supplied ore to Nazi Germany. "We only gave them low-grade ore". I don't think anyone would hold it against them that they provided ore when it was that or be destroyed.

Congrats Nelson

But I don't know how good your chances are at a second date with either of them.

+1 for gmail

So, I know that everyone and their mother is using Moveable Type for their blog software and that some nefarious individuals out there try and post spam as entries. Many of us have turned on a feature where every comment must be manually approved before it is displayed so that the readership doesn't see said spam. When a new comment is posted the owner of the blog receives an email containing the post and a link to go in and approve it. Well, gmail is smart enough to pick up the spam in the body of the comment and dumbs the emails alerting me to them into the spam folder. This means I never have to see the emails about the spam posts. Someday I'll have to go into my website and delete all the spam comments out of the database but still, go gmail go.

Who's next, Captain Kangaroo?

This article on the BBC website makes me kind of sad. Those list don't seem to work so well.

I'm in WI and it's not even an accident

I'm in Madison, WI at the concourse hotel. Man this place is nice. Way too fancy for me. Underground parking, free internet, marble in the elevator....good stuff. Thank you uncle V.
Had dinner with the Lyle's. That was a lot of fun. They sound like they're both having a good school year so far. Hats off to anyone in the public education system. The youth of america can be toolsheds, I'm glad there are people like Ryan, Melissa and Travis that have the training to inform them that they are toolsheds in a polictically corrent and minimally scarring manner. Except Travis, pretty sure he'll just tell them they're being dumb and they should shut their faces until their brain kicks in in a few years.
I spend Friday night with Dave and Brad. They are two fun guys plus Brad has a motor-bike, so that's cool.
Final note, if you have a spare $12 - $15 go out and buy "Hot Fuss" cd by a band called "The Killers". I really dig it. It's fun and easy to listen to.

I'm a Brian

I post this because a) this is a great show and b) josh did it. I know, I know. The whole "if your friends posted a video of a flaming shoolbus full of blind orphans rolling backwards into shark infested waters would you too" arguement. Some times peer preassure is okay.

Which Family Guy character are you?

I'm going to Wisconsin

Well, I managed to volunteer to go to a job fair at the UW-Madison campus. I've been here all of 4 weeks, not counting last summer, but I guess they like to send recent grads to we can comment on what it's like starting here at the big V. I'm getting a hotel room and the place hf pointed me to is this hotel. I know that I don't know much about hotels, although I can tell you a lot about one specific motel in Dekalb, IL :( , but this looks realy, really nice. The price isn't insane, $140 for the night, and it's on the company so I'm jazzed about that. If you're going to be a lackee for "the man" you might as well live it up when you can.
After looking at the picture on the website I have this overpowering desire to get a smoking jacket and tool around the bar talking about my yacht and the villa in cabo.
Has anyone out there ever been on the interviewing side of one of these? I know kruck has and he's shared some wisdom on it but if anyone else has any, or if you have more josh, spread it my way before sunday.

Haven't we known this all along?

I just pulled this article off a link from ars. It's a report about a florida court saying that television stations can choose to air things that they know are false/misleading. Way to go team.
Oh, and the station in question is a Fox affiliate I believe. Couldn't have guessed that one.

Get'em while they're....not...hot....

Well, it looks like partisan politics is opening the door for people to get their hands on automatic weapons. Way to go team :( And this close to the election?

Back in the saddle

Well, it looks like the Steve is back. That's always good news to Apple's faithful.
Also, I read this article about building your own mini-satellite for < $75k. Josh, we should get a few Vx staffers in on this. We could market it as the first extra-terrestrial backup. Email me, we'll talk.
On a wholly unrelated note, on the way back from church on Sunday brooke and I were behind this mini-van at a stoplight and witnessed some hillarious sparring, sibling style. There was a child in a car-seat and another kind, probally < 5 years old, in the back seat. The kid not in the seat starts hitting the one in the seat. Kid in the seat leans over and fights back. Kid not in the seat appears to jump onto kid in seat and takes a stuffed animal from him. At this point father turns around and makes a hand gesture that we took to me "kid not in seat, get up here now". But, as soon as dad turns his head to the road kid not in seat is back, pounding on kid in seat. It was really funny and, for a time, I did some voice-over commentary ala MST3k.
Good times.

Sweet /. poll

Yet another thing that will only be funny to the nerdy, or maybe just to nelson and myself, is this poll over at /. Option 6 is the only way to go in my opinion.
Oh, and the reason that Ballmer is on the poll is this. I know a lot of you have already seen the video of him jumping around, looking like a tool but it feels good to put yet another link to it up. Silly M$ monkey boy.

Billy, you really should check your sources

Okay, so this might only be funny to me but I was reading this article over at CNET about MSN's new music store. In it the author mentions that MS is focusing just as much on video as audio while Apple doesn't feel the consumer deman is there for video. Bill Gates had this to say on the topic:

"Ask kids in the back of a car on a two-hour trip, 'Hey, would you like to have your videos there?' My kids would," Gates said. "I guess Steve's kids just listen to Bach and Mozart. But mine, they want to watch 'Finding Nemo.' I don't know who made that, but it's really a neat movie."

Well Billy, if you'd bothered to check the old imdb you'd have seen that Pixar made that movie. Who's the CEO of Pixar again? Oh yeah, Steve Jobs. Billy, Billy, Billy.....

A fun demo to download

I first heard about this game on PVP. The premise is cool, you design an evil lair and then watch as hoards of do-gooders attempt to assail it. I haven't had a chance to play it yet but I'm hoping to soon. From the sounds of it the demo is short but fun.
Another game that looks cool is fable. This could be one of the games that makes me glad I opted for an xbox over the alternatives.
There's been a lack of comments lately so I'll stoop and throw out some flame bait.
Chronotrigger was the best video game ever and it ran on the best platform ever, for it's day, the supernintendo. All others must bow in reverence to it's awesome majesty.
Okay, discuss among yourselves and get back to me with reasons why I'm wrong.
