Quality Parenting from the W state
Read this article at the BBC about a dad in Texas who had enough of his kids being tools and auctioned off the 3 Nintendo DS's he'd bought them for xmas. He has a great qoute, stating that teaching kids accountability is never a bad idea. You sir, get a bonus point for that.

I'm off to the AZ
Brooke's brother, Brad, is getting married on Sunday and I'm leaving today to attend as brooke's "+1". I'm pretty excited to hang out with brooke's family, they're a lot of fun. Also of note, Arizona is home to several in-n-out eateries, so I'll be taking full advantage of that.
The holidays have been funfilled for me. I spent a few days with the fam up north. Lost several boardgames to the cousins, which tends to happen whenver we get to gether. The Vikings reminded us that they really aren't very good this year. That's about it. There are more details but they aren't coming to mind right now.
Whever you are, I hope you've had a great holiday season.

We'll miss you Briscoe
Jerry Orbach, better known as Lenny Briscoe on Law & Order, lost the fight against cancer. BBC article here.
Also of note, he left L & O but was working on yet another spin-off. Looks like they may have a different L&O for every night of the week. I'm sure TNT is thrilled, this brings them one step closer to their goal of an all L&O channel.
A second note, I hadn't realized he was the voice of the candlestick in Beaty and the Beast.

One of the coolest nerd stories ever
/. is carrying a story about the guys that wrote the program Graphing Calculator. You can read it here. It's an awesome story of a few guys being so committed to something that they risked arrest and worked 7 days a week, unpaid for over 6 months to see their program created and distributed. They had some fairly altruistic intentions too, which makes a nerd feel good on the inside. I give them one point each for determination and another point because they did it at Apple.

I'm a crappy poster
I just repost other people's things. I promise that sometime soon I'll have an entry completely of my own devising and scheming. For now, check this out. It's an ad for a European car. Man is it sweet. I saw it on Josh Lewis's website. I know most of you check that out also but for my mom and anyone else that doesn't hit Josh's site, and you should mom, check it out.
Also, I found that this little coffee shop that's in an old DQ building by my house has the same insta-scones that Bethel serves. I ate these things every morning for almost two years and I like'em. They hold a place in my heart similair to the fishsticks my high school served. I logically understand that they are of sub-standard quality, I just really like them. They taste "right" to me. Go figure.

...if you have faith ,the Steve will come to you
So, Apple released a software update today, details here. If you look closely you'll see that there are several fixes aimed specifically at the game World of Warcraft. There had been problems with Apple's graphics drivers, they are different than the PC versions, and Blizzard had to shut off hardware rendering on the Mac's as a result. This means the game plays a lot slower/looks worse than it should on macs. I just installed it on my 12" powerbook and it's rough. Here's hoping Blizzard drops a corresponding patch turning the hardware rendering back on, then I'll be in business.

I might have to get a new name tag
Well, the guy in the next office over poked his head in and brought the news that
symantec is looking to buy Veritas. This is the first I've heard of it, but it's an interesting proposal. On the plus side the stock is up 10%. Not that I own any of it yet but I will come Feb. 15th, so that's neat.

Too good to last
Well, that screen saver lycos put out, mentioned here, has been scrapped according to the BBC. I liked the idea but, like so many good ideas, it didn't hold up too well in the real world.

WHOOOOHOOOO, I'm neutral
Okay, so those of you that read this and are of the nerdy variety know of /.. I know most of us read it daily. Well, for the longest time I had bad karma. This meant that someone thought that one post I put up once was not that informative/intelligent/valuable/whatever. Well, after many well rated posts I'm back to netural. I even have meta-moderator points.
It feels like I've been released from nerd purgatory and I'm not free to moderate, forcing my now "less than evil" will on the greater ./ population.
(Normally this wouldn't be worth posting but it's Monday, I need something to be excited about ;) )

Stevie Wonder doesn't like Eminem's new video...
which is interesting since he's blind. BBC link here. I'm all for voicing ones opinion over things but when those that can't actually see the video start commenting on it, well thats where things get interesting in my book.
