Interesting movie trailer I saw today

I happened across a trailer for lonesome jim which is directed, but not acted in as far as I can tell, by Steve Buscemi. It looks descent, I'll prolly try and catch this one in the theatre.
On other movie topics, there's a film coming shortly called "snakes on a plane". It's going to star Samuel L. Jackson and the premise is that someone releases a bunch of poisonous snakes on a plane in an assasination attempt. I guess Sammy J. signed up without reading the script, merely at learning the name. Should be interesting. The guys at panda are apparently camping out for this one already so that makes me like it even more as they're quite a bit ahead of the trend curve with stuff like this.

Yet another reason ninja's > pirates

I found this over at panda's (not appropriate for my mom or people under 16 or so) and it is freaking awesome. Prepare to laugh until you cry.

The international fiasco of the day

Well, it seems that today's boondoggle revolves around ports and who gets to run them. (bbc link for those so inclined)
So, a British company had been running several major ports in the US. That company was purchased by another company, which is part of a larger organization operated out of the UAE, or United Arab Emirates. It seems that some people don't like the idea of a company that ultimately reports to the Middle East running ports in the US of A.
I can understand the knee-jerk reaction but once you break it down, I don't see how we can deny the company the right to do this in good faith. The standards regarding the regulation of ship born traffic is set by the US coastguard and whoever is running the ports will have to adhere to it. This should take out most of the argument for the ports being less secure. Worse case, congress can up the number of inspections by the coast guard and levie huge fines if security lapses are found.
I don't see how people can oppose this based on the fact it's a foreign country because until now it was run by a bunch of Brits.
The UAE is a pretty descent ally to us from what I know, it's not like this company is HQ'd in Iran or Venezuela.
So, in my opinion, if we deny this country the right to do this, or even make a huge fuss over this, we're sending the message that we're okay with foreign run countries having their hands in our business, but only if it's the "right"(Euro-caucasians) type of foreign country.

Let me know if I'm way off base about the UAE or if you feel strongly in another direction. I think this is a significant topic as this country has a pretty bad reputation in regards to being hypocrites and xenophobic right now, and this could be one more piece of ammo that other countries can use against us.
Maybe a better way to put that is if you want to be the morality police, you need to play by the rules yourself? This is coming off as hyper-critical and that's not what I'm going for, just looking to spark some input from other people.

UPDATE: corrected a typo brooke pointed out in the comments.

Todays excercise in futility brought to us by: Iran

So, Iran has renamed the danish in their outrage over the infamous cartoons. That'll get them. The embargoes costing them millions isn't enough, we're renaming their baked goods. Mwahahahaha.
I shouldn't get too self-rightous though. "We" did the same thing with the French Fries back in the day, as the article mentions. I thought that was a ridiculous move, as is this.
I wonder if the butcher and the candle-stick makers are feeling left out?

Explodingdog.com, not just for breakfast anymore

So, there's this website, explodingdog.com where this artist guy, Sam Brown, draws cartoons, normally with stick men and/or robots, based on his interpretation of phrases that people send in. So you may send in something like "sometimes I just don't want to go to sleep" and you get this drawing. Well, I came across what is most likely one of my top five favorite ones today, and here it is. I just wanted to share that with you all, maybe brighten up your Friday.

ps. The man in my radio said the daytime high was -2 today. I say we call this a dirty trick and all go home. There needs to be adult snow days in my opinion. Well, snow and "really, really cold" days.

The word of the day: quail-tards

So, Paul and I watched the opening monologue and Paul called it dead on when he said it'd be all about cheney shooting that guy. Here is a clip of the first seven minutes or so. Way funny.
I loved that they made fun of the rest of the media for making such a big deal about it.

Sidenote: having grown up hunting and all that I can understand how this happened. The type of hunting they were doing, where everyone is on the ground, shooting fast moving birds, is probably some of the more dangerous hunting there is. The guy that was shot should have announced himself when he came up behind Cheney. Not saying it was his fault, but he didn't do everything he could to protect himself. I'm sure Mr. VP would rather have a bird get away then shoot a friend. In the end, it was an unfortunate accident but these things happen.
Also, the gun Cheney shot him with is the smallest shotgun I have ever heard of. I wasn't even aware that they made a 28 guage shotgun. I thought once you got below 20 you just went for the slingshot. Here is an intro to shotguns page I found. The entire shell has 3/4 an ounce of pellets and a wide dispersion pattern. I think that even if that guy had been sitting on the gun, it would've been hard for it to kill him. Hurt a lot, absolutely. Take an eye out, yeah if a pellet hit him in the eye, but if you were going to get shot with a gun, this would be the way to go.
UPDATE: I take back the smallest gun I'd heard of. After reading that whole shotgun page I realized that the 28 is a little bigger than a 4-10, which is really, really small gun. Like red ryder bb gun small. anywho, I wanted to admit my error.

This one is for Nick

I turned off moderated comments. This means that anything that is posted will show up right away instead of having to wait for my aproval like it used to. Nick said he didn't like posting comments on my site because he's a fan of instant gratification and felt like his posting efforts weren't being properly rewarded.
Nick, now you're obligated to post :P

From: Intel To: IBM

Dear IBM,
Bow before our mighty fab plants and cower in the wake of our ascending clockspeeds.

Well, okay, so we took a little step back, but now it's on like Donkey Kong you big blue dorks.

Yours truely,
Intel

ps. I think it's way cool that not only did the MacBooks a) come out early ( remember they'd originally said don't expect anything until June '06) b) they hit the street date they set of mid-February and c) they're "ahead" on the chips so they just upgraded everyone for free. That's freaking sweet.

The game for 2006: blockus

So, I played blockus last night for the first time and it's a lot of fun. It's kinda like tetris meets jenga kinda of a deal on a board. Look into it, it's good stuff.

Again with the swiping links from /.

Okay, I know most of us read /. but this link was too good not to repost. Seems our friends in the .jp have built a real transformer. Granted, it's only about the size of a RC car but still, it's quite a bit cooler than that robot dog thingy that Sony just cancelled, at least in my book. To have an RC optimus prime that you could get to transform and walk around by hitting buttons on a remote...the mind reels at the hours of joy I could get out of such a toy.
Then the mind reels at the fact that I'm an adult in charge of things and I'm really, really excited about a toy that will most likely never exist :/
That reminds of a joke about trids. ( click on the link of the bottom of the page and work through all 15 or so screens, they're short and the animations make it quite a bit more funny than if I told it all fast and mumbly )(oh, and I think the page *might* have sound. It yelled at me for not having the quicktime plugin for my browser so I can't say for sure)

Pete mentioned this last night and I didn't know what he was talking about. Then I found a trailer for it via the signal keeper, Mr. Mooney

New offenses that will put you next to the theatre talkers

The title is in reference to the fourth qoute down on this page.
Firstly, using cute puppies as drug runners. This is moderately bad but they killed some of the puppies, so I think that warrants a little extra time in purgatory.
Now whomever this is, on the other hand, they need a whole new kind of pain to be invented, a name for it to be made and then inflicted on them because that's just so many kinds of wrong.
