This one is for sanders

I ran into a friend of mine, Matt Sanders, at a gathering last night. It was good to see Matt, it's been a while since I'd run into him. He mentioned that he reads this, which ups my mental count to 3 people that read it, and that I hadn't written in quite some time.
This post is so Matt has something to read on Monday.
Also, I met Evan Buerke, who is a friend of several of my friends and acquintences. It was very nice to meet you Evan.

I just finished reading "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay". I think it's a phenomenal book. Travis has read a bit of it but was waiting for me to finish so he could take it with him in his traipsings about and tear through it with a speed that I find myself a bit jelous of at times. He and I were talking about the author's writing and how he did a great job of varying the tempo of the plot, the varying degree of detail provided and how that all ebbed a flowed in a seemingly perfect rythm that added to the excellent narrative.
This is a rather lengthy book ( 650+ pages ) but it really does go much faster than you'd think. Great character development, I loved that it made reference to real things ( WWII, Stan Lee, Salvador Dali, etc ) and really seemed to encapsulate the time in which the character's lived.
As I mentioned, Travis is working through it currently but I'm sure it will be available for lending at some point in the near future. There are used copies on Amazon for a few bucks or it should be found for < $10 I would think at local store. Go get it if you're in the market for a great book.

Also, I went back to Isle, MN to my home town for the annual summer parade. It was good to see a fair chunk of the people I went to school with. It's weird for me to have "old friends" like that. To say things that I always considered exclusive to the conversations of my parents like "I haven't seen you since < insert a year from the last decade>, how are you doing?" or "so, how many kids do you have now?". This getting old business is a bit disarming, I recommend you avoid it if at all possible.

While "getting old business is a bit disarming" it beats the alternative.

Morning Joe,it was great to see you on Saturday we should get together sometime. Also, Ive heard a ton of talk about this book lately, I guess thats what happens when you win a pulitzer. One last thing, I thought that once you graduated from college you never had to read again; did I miss something?
