So wrong
I mentioned this to those I had the honor of dining with last night but the word on the street is that there is a Dirty Dancing video game in the works. As can be expected, the Penny Arcade team has taken up the easily grasped gauntlet and mocked said game.
My work has been done for me (if only this applied to more than mocking items and people).

And the nerds shall rejoice
Well, this firmly and definitively entrenches me in the nerd rank and file but I'm excited about the forthcoming Babylon 5 mini-series that was made by the same team as the original series and set years later. This was a quality sci-fi series that I was a big fan of. I'm glad to see the fans speaking up was rewarded with some more episodes, even if they are straight to video.

Open a savings account and get a 30 sec spot on national tv
I picked up a link to a short debate on birth control from digg.
The lady that is calling the new birth control that helps eliminate the womans period pesticide seems pretty crazy to me. Giant flower pin aside, it seems like the individual against this did nothing but repeat catch phrases and then, at the end the "i want more babies" line....it seems like they'll put anyone on tv if you're a spokesperson for a group.

They kept the sound (kind of )
Yahoo has an exclusive transformers trailer that seems to have a lot more footage of the robots in action. I love the fact that when optimus transforms the sound is similar to the cartoon series. If they'd canned that, or worse changed it too much, the nerds would have revolted(or at least I'm going to contend that is the case with no real support other than assuming every nerd on earth thinks like me).

Art mocking life
How true this dilbert is in my experience, is disturbing. Norman Rockwell has returned and his name is Scott Adams.

This title writer deserves a raise
So, if you read a title that said "Skywalkers in Korea cross Han solo, what would you think the story was about? I bet the answer isn't tight rope enthusiasts in Seoul.
Or....if that was your first thought....you're smarter than me.
Well..you're probably still smarter than me.

Apparently I'm "captain political agenda" today
The BBC has an article about Paul Wolfowitz's top aide stepping down amidst all the controversy surrounding Paul's actions in securing his girlfriend a job at the pentagon and much larger than average pay bumps.
The aide stepped down because he didn't feel that was doing much good because of the controversy. That aside, I liked this quote from the article:
The committee is also believed to be examining other controversial employment arrangements amid claims Mr Wolfowitz gave senior posts to trusted former colleagues, who did not have much relevant experience.
These are the questionable hires we need to look into? Not Michael Brown, the abandoner of New Orleans, Alberto Gonzalez, the attorney general that can't remember dates and facts, or John Bolton, the US ambassador to the UN that belittled it's very existence and that the US congress repeatedly refused to endorse?
I'm all for looking into sketchy things but I feel that this is a case of the maintenance staff on the titanic looking into a leaky toilet as the ship went down.
UPDATE:
Upon reading the wiki articles I found some interesting tidbits.
Apparently before the New Orleans disaster, Michael Brown ran the other organization he ran, the IAHA, into the ground and also produced more than a little controversy by using organization funds to put money into a defense fund for his family.
Also, John Bolton apparently employed the "oh gee, since you caught me I'll say I forgot" defense in regards to a discrepancy on forms he filled out for the senate. I guess remembering that you were questioned two years earlier by the state department in relation to false statements used to prop up a campaign to go to war is a forgettable occasion :/
Wow...just...wow....

Phone companies are from crazyland
So, on top of the W administration trying to retroactively clear the telco's of being dirty, dirty sellouts for W's team, now Verizon is saying that selling out its customers is its first amendment right.
Come again ghostrider?
I have a bevy of questions/comments to this.
- Do the amendments even extend to corporate entities?
- The constitutionality aside, if you violate your own terms of service, don't you think that bears comment and/or apology?
- The "even talking about it is too much" arguement when applied to the topic of "reasons I shouldn't be held accountable for doing bad things" is getting soooo freaking old. We need more scooby doo moments where the foiled party says "I did it and I'd have gotten away with it if it wasn't for you nosy kids and your dog"
I feel like the national association of lawyers for telephone companies is hosting a competition for the most ridiculous statement introduced in a court of law and the lawyers are swinging for the fence.
I hope there's a nice prize...like maybe an set of golf clubs and a weekend in Boise, Idaho for 2.

Unbelievable move by the goverment
Ars has a post on a proposed bill that would retroactively absolve the telco's for their involvement in the controversial, warrantless wiretaps that have been making the news for the last 2 or so years.
If you haven't heard about this I suggest you read the article and the links contained therein. The short version is large telephone companies aided and abetted the government in tapping phone calls without a warrant. When this was found out, the government declined to investigate. When groups started suing, the government pulled the "states secret" card to prevent the cases from going forward. At this point, the EFF still has a case open against AT&T but this bill would kill that.
The seems like such a blatant case of the government protecting a party that acted in an illegal manner to help the government. Such incredulous self-serving behavior, right out in the open? Come on, really?
I'm hoping that now that one party doesn't control the entire legislative stack we'll see the chinanigans slowed down or maybe even prevented. Maybe that's a naive hope, but it's a hope I have.
It'd be awesome for someone to make this a campaign issue (Barak, you listening buddy?)
