Open a savings account and get a 30 sec spot on national tv

I picked up a link to a short debate on birth control from digg.
The lady that is calling the new birth control that helps eliminate the womans period pesticide seems pretty crazy to me. Giant flower pin aside, it seems like the individual against this did nothing but repeat catch phrases and then, at the end the "i want more babies" line....it seems like they'll put anyone on tv if you're a spokesperson for a group.

People need to realize that birth control is around and will be used. I'm not going to say I'm against this new form of it, but from a medical standpoint I wonder if this is really good for women. It seems like never having a period would not be good for the body. I'd like to learn more of that perspective.

Also of note: In the transcript of the blog they edit the word "God" with "G-d" like most places would the F***. When did "God" become a word/name that needs to be edited out?

that lady is crazy... 'I want more babies.. MORE BABIES!!!!'

I had not read the entire transcript but thanks for pointing that out Austin, that is interesting. I see someone pointed it out on the think progress blog (comment #122). I'll try and check back in to see if that's answered.

As far as the long term health ramifications, I don't know. I hope the FDA gave this a stern working over for womens sake.

I just chuckled to myself because I had that thought that if the woman saying "more babies" was younger it could have been a "more cowbell" homage ;)
Regardless of one's personal stance, the younger woman put forth a sane, coherent stance while giant pin lady seemed to be regurgitating rhetoric without thought or consideration.

The "more babies" part, I have a hard time with that. Given the current state of things, do we really need "more babies" for the sake of having more babies or should we focus on trying to take care of the ones that are already born?

More Cowbell popped into my head too.

There are some people out there who equate the pill to abortion, which is what this lady did. I believe the vast majority of people (especially those under 40) would not agree with that.

In my personal opinion I think the whole debate between the two was pointless. But then again a debate between a person who likes birth control with the monthly period and one who likes birth control without a period would be a pretty lame discussion (unless from the medical point of view perhaps).

The taking the o out of God (also commonly done with Lord) is something that's somewhat common in certain circles, and based out of Old Testament theology (IIRC it originated with not being fit to speak the name of God). I'm guessing she requested it when they had her review her part of the transcript.

It seems the one person seemed to not even consider the possibility that some women may not even want/need to use it for birth control, but just to eliminate a hassle from their lives.
