the science behind smooching

Yeah, lame title but I couldn't come up with anything else that didn't involve the phrase "sucking face". Guess I'm having an off day.
The article in question came across digg. It has a few snippets from a paper about kissing, the role it serves in human society and some differences between men and women's attitude towards kissing. Semi-interesting and a quick read so I'd say check it out.

fun little video from google

This came across digg today and I enjoyed it so I'm passing it along.
Here is how google handles email. It's an embedded player and it will likely start on load so turn your speakers down a bit when you hit the link.

Random linky link

So, I've been working my way through the archives of a comic called Questionable Content and I came across this pearl (ps, why does it take me 2 tries to spell pearl right....silly Larry Wall) and it's awesome. I can't explain how much I enjoy this given how much time I sunk into the cultural reference it points to. Good stuff.

but will he recall that he resigned?

Happy day, happy day. The abuser of the constitution and impedance to justice, Alberto Gonzales, has resigned. All I can say is about freaking time.
It'll be interesting to see who they replace him with.

I am officially a patron of the arts

So, Travis and I went to the Kurt Halsey opening in Chicago and I purchased an original piece. If you're interested go here and look for the piece entitled "untitled(ghosts)" and that's it. The image doesn't do it justice though, the paper it's on has some cool textures and what looks like someone wrote on a piece of paper on top of this one and you can make out the faint text of that other note. It's big time. I hope I don't break it.

I totally forgot

So, Laura and I saw the Simpsons movie last week during my time off and on the front end of it was this trailer for the upcoming Batman movie. I'm so excited, I did my little flippy arm waving thing that I do when I get really, really excited. Yes it's embarrassing and yes, I understand that it's embarrassing but somethings a guys just gotta do. C'mon, it's the freaking Dark Knight.

Random thing from the internet

This came across digg today, it's a video montage of a guy constructing a proposal under the guise of being art. I'm a fan, nice work brother.

Comings and goings

Well, about time for a non-link based post.
I took a few days off this week, needed a break, and it's been pretty good. I went out and rode with a few guys I know for several hours tonight. We went over to Taylors Falls and then to osceolla and back.
Next weekend I'm going to see an art opening. The artist is Kurt Halsey and it's in Chicago, so I get to see the opening and also hang out with my good friends Ryan and Melissa Lyle. I actually ordered a print of Kurt's work, should be here in a few days (it's this one).
I also bought tickets to the Flaming Lips concert at the Myth in the front end of September so that should be fun.
Guess that's it. Hope all's well wherever you're at.

Fate backs me up, round 2

Same deal as before. I was driving home last night in the rain and while traipsing across the presents I hit Damien Rice's Cannonball.
Thank you little man in my radio that's looking out for me.

Rove v. Boot-in-the-ass

Turns out the long over due news of Karl Rove leaving office has finally come in.
At this point I figured he'd be wearing stripes before that happened but it looks like he's stepping down. Good deal.
Next on the list, Captain of the "I don't recall" brigade.

When fate throws you a bone

So, you gotta love it when you're just not having a good day/week/whatever and you're flipping through the radio stations and you catch a random song that you're like "holy crap, no way is this on the radio" because it's one of your favorites songs of years gone by.
I had that happen today. I was flipping through the channels on my way to meet some friends for lunch (I was running 10 minutes early by the way so this is how you know it's fate) and what do I come across (in the first verse none the less) but convoy (iTMS link) by C.W. McCall. Such a good song.

New Jack Black movie

This came across digg.com, there's a trailer up for a new Jack Black movie. I'm still buffering it up but I'm 1/2 through and the premise doesn't seem awful so far. It's directed by Michel Gondry who did Science of Sleep, which I liked a lot.
I have an unhealthy fondness for all things Mr. Black does so I'll see this no question. Yes I rented Pick of Destiny and I liked it and Tim Robbins character is great.

UPDATE: Okay, I just finished it and I like it. I think it could actually be good.

From the intertron

In today's news we have a good idea and a bad idea (warning, the bad idea involves a pseudo-medical surgery resulting in someone's gender related hardware being in an undefined state).

So, today I took over ownership of another component within the ginormous piece of software I work on. What'd you do? (guessing whatever it was it caused less hand-wringing & fretting than I inflicted on myself)
Days like this I'm grateful that I have Rosie to see me through.
"And they'll wave.....to you....."

Awesome or awful?

I listen to Kevin Smiths smodcast, it's a good time and he keeps things interesting. Definitely not for the faint of heart, my mom or anyone at work that can't close their door or wear headphones.
Well, he's working on a show called Reaper that's going to air on the CW. It's about a slacker that finds out his parents sold his soul to the devil and now he's a bounty hunter. It seems like parts buffy, evil dead and idle hands but I'm not sure if I'm on board or not. If it's going to be good, it's going to be that cheesy good that all those shows were. I think his side kick bothers me, he's like a bad cross of Jack Black and that chubby guy from Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, Nick Frost.
Trailer can be seen here.

Yeah for science

Scientists can now levitate stuff. In reality they're focusing on small things although it sounds like it's potentially feasible to levitate larger things.
Neat.

Unreal.

I disagree Mr. Putin

So, the Russians are making a land grab in the artic via putting a flag under the north pole. They have likened this to putting a flag on the moon.
I disagree with Mr. Putin. I think he needs to watch the film Apollo 13 and then re-evaluate his comments. If crap goes wrong in the artic (never mind that they have support ships and subs and a whole convoy), you can phone up the Norwegians, the Canadians, the US and help could be there in a reasonable time frame. The moon...not so much. I mean the Kennedy's have a summer home up there but they're kind of douches if you call them for a jump start.
