A fall mixtape

A "song of the day" type website that I read posted a fall themed mix tape (downloadable as a zip file) that I'm digging today so I thought I'd pass it on

Some thoughts on Sarah Palin

The guys over at pandas have some thoughts on a recent interview with Sarah Palin and a link to the interview (here) that I think are worth reading.
Something that I hadn't paused to consider is that there is statistically a reasonable chance that McCain would not survive his entire 4 year term, if elected. This brings to the forefront the question of if Sarah Palin would be a decent president. The lack of experience at the national & international scope is concerning as well as her insistence that she is equipped, inexperience aside, because she's ready and won't blink. That sounds like a "shoot from the hip" mentality that we've had for the last 8 years. Not terribly excited about that...
I find the logic that she has international experience because Alaska is near Russia as absurd and laughable. When is the last time Alaska and Russia had direct political, economic or military interaction of any sort?
I still need to do more research but that point seems absolutely ridiculous.

From the west coast I blog...

Well, I made it out here okay. My family drove out with me which was a lot of fun. We saw some relatives in Iowa, swung by the grand canyon and had a pretty good time doing it. We arrived on Wednesday and did a little moving in, some shopping in San Jose and my family's first trip to In-n-out. Thursday was a walk down the promenade, a good meal in SC and some shopping and then they took off.

Now I have a few weeks to kill before classes start. One of my roommates is here (I'll have 3 for the year) and we're getting along just fine. Mastering public transit is next on my list after figuring out how to do laundry and cooking myself a meal. I do the latter very rarely so I'm glad I have time to work on that.
One interesting note, there are signs warning about mountain lion attacks on all the paths along with what to do if you run into one (tips include do not crouch or run and talk to it in a firm, even voice as you back away slowly).
Good times.
